Everyone loves to get a letter from a friend, or read other people’s letters.  Herman’s Letter, with lift up letters you can peek into, is perfect for all those budding letter readers!

Herman and Henry are best of friends, until Henry has to move far away.   Herman is miserable, but is not sure that Henry misses him. Henry seems to be having a lot more fun Herman can’t bring himself to reply to any of Henry’s letters, until one day, Herman decides he must write and deliver his letter to Henry in person.

This is a lovely book from a new author who tackles problems of friendship and feeling stuck in misery, in a warm and sympathetic way.  The illustrations are beautiful, with more than a few visual jokes.  I liked Henry reading ‘Silent Night’ with Herman snoring loudly next to him!  And of course the pleasure of reading other people’s letters.  The five year old relished the lift the flap letters, and had a laugh at Herman’s adventure to deliver his letter to Henry.   If you’ve enjoyed the Ahlbergs’ The Jolly Postman, then you’ll enjoy Herman’s Letter. The heroic postman in Herman’s Letter saves the day too!

You can see the author Tom Percival drawing Herman and Henry here

Herman’s Letter is published by Bloomsbury Publishing who have kindly provided the review copy and a prize copy.
